Bio
Born in Geneva to Mauritian parents, Ravi grew up with a dual culture, giving him a rich cultural background and musical sensitivity. He first studied classical piano at the Conservatoire in Geneva (CPMDT) at the age of 8. At the age of 13, he began self-taught guitar with pop punk, then turned to jazz. He soon immersed himself in jazz and improvised music through the AMR in Geneva, where he trained by playing at jam sessions. He had the opportunity to make musical encounters outside Switzerland during a year in England and a few months in Colombia. Through a fascination for odd meters, Ravi draws in his music complex rhythmic patterns submerged in musical fluidity and harmonic sensitivity. Based in Geneva, Ravi is taking part in various projects between Geneva and Lausanne, including his quartet Ravi Ramsahye PROTOTYPE and nn_a_n_y.

Ravi Ramsahye PROTOTYPE, like an archetype in the collective unconscious, embodies the idea of an entity that is both innovative and accessible to all. The guitarist’s compositions blend the adolescent nostalgia of pop punk, the freshness of progressive jazz and the complexity of math rock. Their latest album Crépuscules (2024) draws introspective landscapes infused with raw percussive force. A new repertoire is in preparation, exploring an even deeper aesthetic honesty.
Formed in 2020 in Geneva, Ravi Ramsahye PROTOTYPE released an EP in 2022 and their first LP, Crépuscules, on March 1st, 2024. After establishing their place on the local scene (Tremplin JazzContreband 2020 & 2022, Festival des Cropettes 2021, Cully Jazz 2023), the band was selected for Suisse Diagonales Jazz 2024, embarking on a 9-concert tour across Switzerland (Moods in Zürich, Bird’s Eye in Basel, …). In Autumn 2024, they continued promoting their album with a successful tour in France and Switzerland, including sold-out performances at the 38Riv in Paris.
